In the Ukrainian language, the word kolo carries a dual meaning: ‘circle’ or ‘next to’. Anna Khvyl’s composition is created for multi-channel sound, where musical gestures flow in a circle, reminiscent of a child's game, intertwining and colliding with one another. The composition invites the listener to enter the auditory playground, tracing the paths of sounds.
The composition was commissioned by Sonic Acts in the context of the Spatial Sound Platform, presented during The Listening Room at Zone2Source in 2024.

A sound sculpture made for an electricity-measuring factory in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, during the V:Uncase Residency in 2020.
Collaborating with factory workers, I repurposed metal pipes from demolished industrial structures, transforming them into a large musical instrument.
In collaboration with a sound artist Yevgen Orlov, we used algorithmic music to generate a continuous, evolving sound from the pipes, creating a dome of sound over the people. We envisioned this sound as a material, constructing an invisible yet perceptible architecture.
When our body can’t cross the border, our mind is always free to journey anywhere. When we can’t travel physically, we can explore new places with our imagination. We imagine what we haven’t seen yet by collaging sensory experiences familiar to us.
The sound installation was created for La Galerie Municipale in Châteauneuf-sur-Charente, France. It consists of two audio compositions. One explores my curiosity to imagine the Charente river which I was not able to see due to pandemic travel restrictions. The other composition is my sonic adventures on the river Teteriv in Ukraine where I spent June 2020.
